A Warmup Regatta for the Summer Season. Albert Park Yacht Club is hosting the inaugural Citysail Regatta for Women and Girls at Albert Park Lake on 10-11 September. This is a Coaching and Racing Regatta with the aim of increasing female participation and confidence in sailing. All monohull classes up to 5 metres are welcome. Skippers must be female, but can have a female or male crew. We will fire up the barbecue and offer a free glass of wine/beer or soft drink after racing on Saturday. The 2016 Albert Park Yacht Club Annual General Meeting will be held at the APYC Club House on Saturday August 20th, commencing at 11.30am. Many interesting projects to help grow our sailing membership and maintain our club building are underway or in planning - come along to hear about these directly from the committee. Feel free to raise any ideas or concerns in general business, and vote on the proposed budget and fees for the coming year. Then wind down with a sail in the afternoon! Hope to see you there.
The Albert Park Yacht Club is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance the sport of sailing by encouraging people to learn to sail, by giving Members opportunities to develop sailing and yacht racing skills, and by providing Members, their families and friends, with recreational and social facilities and activities associated with sailing. Albert Park Yacht Club is the oldest continuing inland yacht club in Victoria. We’ve been around since 1871 and have a rich history, of which we’re very proud. Albert Park Yacht Club offers a safe and convenient place to sail year round in the heart of the city. The Club recently upgraded the its facilities to make the premises more friendly for the mobility impaired. Our club is financially viable and has run with a surplus funds for many years, but that surplus is insufficient to meet our immediate needs to make some important expansions to our sailing infrastructure and attend to vital cyclical maintenance. Our club rooms require some major cyclical maintenance such as refurbishment of rotten windows in the race tower and galley, replacing the worn out floor in the upper hall, external and internal painting and attending to the ageing boat shed roof. These upgrades are designed to enable The Club to continue to serve its members and attract new members that are vital to the future viability of The Club. Please make a tax deductible donation today! The Summer short course series continues on Saturday January 9th with rounds 4, 5 & 6. Great return to club racing after a short break for the festive season!
